Green is on the Scene!

For the past couple of years we have seen bold, bright reds and oranges dominate the interior design and fashion industry, however we recently discovered, after going to High Point Market this past April, there may be another color coming into the scene.

Green! but not just any green, we noticed a specific hue, “Kelly Green” as it has been called, was everywhere this year.  Green is a color that we relate to many things, most of us think of nature, the earth, regeneration, and prosperity.

This "Kelly" green is striking and bold, and brings an energetic feel to any space.  At Market we saw this green contrasted with lacquered black and white finishes and even highlighted with electric gold and silver accents.

Silver accents!

We love the combination of the deep green with the bight yellow and orange

Beautiful green accessories!

LOVE this unique piece

More Market Finds...

As designers we scour the globe for the world’s most beautiful things.  The Highpoint Market we recently attended was full of inspiration.  Here are just a few of my favorite finds.

These stunning sculptures were made from the leftover glass pieces in a glass factory.
The absolutely sparkle in the light, and would look amazing in many interior spaces.

I couldn’t help but to fall in love with this unusual light fixture
made of butterfly shaped capiz shells.

And how can you not love this unique little table from Century?!?!

Sugar Boo Designs had wonderful artwork with sweet messages and a sense of humor.

Market was full of new products, beautiful designs and inspiring pieces. These are just the "tip of the ice burg". If you are looking for something specific or unique to your style, we would love to have you contact us. www.bydesigninteriors.com

Highpoint Market Recap!

We are finally settled back in after our Bi-yearly trip to Market. Now we get the chance to share some of our favorites from market with you!

I personally took note of all the great colors at market this year! These come at the perfect time--- Spring is here! Whether you are planning an outdoor party, redesigning your home or just wanting to freshen up a room in your space- take note of these colors and the unique ways they are applied.

This posh purple Dining Room was located inside the John Richard showroom. Notice the accent wall as well as the chairs are a soft purple color which is complimented by the white buffet and neutral rug.

Do you love pink? Or any other color for that matter but don't want to overwhelm your space? Pearson set up this room with neutral sofas and added color in the throw pillows, the scalloped ottoman and accessories.

This chartreuse tufted ottoman is not for the faint of heart!! It makes an awesome statement paired with the white sofa and co-coordinating throw pillows. These colors are really hot right now!

A colorful sofa used in an otherwise clean palette, brings this space to life! Note that most of the pillows are solid but the texture difference adds dimension to the sofa.

If you are a little weary about using so much color you can try simple accents such as these:

A really fun pillow that would look great almost anywhere

I found many of these at Market- Floor Plans used as art! This one was my favorite, because it's pink!

Adding Pizazz to a Traditional Interior

If your style leans more to the traditional side or maybe you have a house full of antique furniture that belonged to your grandmother, there are simple things you can do to help brighten things up, without replacing the furniture in your home.

To add "oomph," try using a bright infusion of color.

You can also paint a dark dramatic color on the walls to enhance the look.

Another way to "dress up" an interior is by using asymmetrical arrangements. This allows you to use your traditional pieces to creates a fun and unique look.

Contemporary art paired with traditional interiors can also kick things up a notch.

Another idea is to use a funky fabric on a classic form in order to update your furniture.

Showhouse Showdown - The Winner is....

HGTV Showhouse Showdown aired Friday on HGTV where "the pressure was on for HGTV's hottest designers and carpenters who pair up to compete in the most intense design competition yet!" And guess which lovely lady wins the competition in the Houston, TX Showdown...that's right! By Design Interiors' very own and very talented, Cindy Aplanalp!

Cindy states "This has been a long time coming and I want to give many thanks to all who helped create this project and supported the dream!"

Now we are going to give you a little inside scoop on her design:

This family room is truly the heart of this home. The footprint needed to support seating for six, accomadate TV viewing, while creating a focal point wall with the fireplace and maintain the feel of sophistication. I accomplished this by adding interest with the diagonally placed zebra rug, the Asian influenced turquoise cocktail table and the tall, entertainment cabinet.

The contemporary art was created on site to further the color palette found throughout the home. I used hardwood flooring throughout to unify and make for easy wear and care.

Big bang for buck: NEVER skimp on lighting! The sofa and side chair came from Costco but the lighting was a well spent splurge! Additionally, modern, up-scale florals add to the look as well as the modern art.

Without a doubt, the crowning jewel is the spiral light fixture suspended in the space, along with coordinating sconces placed on the fireplace. This room is warm, classic, functional and beautiful!

The window treatments take the edge off and help with the sound quality- the walls and ceilings share the same color for unity and  add a calming effect. Since undoubtedly this will be a very ‘hard working’ space- I wanted to ensure that I supported a state of ‘calm’ with color palette, no fuss materials and an uncluttered approach.

THANK YOU again to everyone who voted for Cindy and for all the vendors who helped make this a reality! More "inside scoop" coming soon!
